Fallout 3 (with all 3 DLC packs)

11 05 2009

I wasn’t late to the party this time. I just wanted to wait for all the DLC to come out first.

Bethesda, developers of “The Elder Scrolls” free roam fantasy RPG series including the award winning Oblivion, has taken the fairly old but still beloved title by older gamers out of the wastelands that is Interplay and injected new life into the franchise. And what wonderfully bleak life it was! Read the rest of this entry »

Demigod

20 04 2009

So I picked up Demigod not expecting much, and indeed, there was not much. I was excited back when Supreme Commander made by the same developers was hyped up and it was one of the biggest disappointments of 2007 for me. So this time, I’m was not going to fall for “Gas Powered Games” internet hype again. Read the rest of this entry »

Persona 4

16 03 2009

Oh Atlus, how I love all your games. If only they were a couple dozen hours shorter.

But I can’t blame them because that’s just the format of Japanese games and Persona 4 is no exception. Besides this problem, the game is a very solid title for anyone’s jRPG collection. Read the rest of this entry »

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2

22 02 2009

I’ll first say, I did not play 75 hours within the 3 days of this game coming out. For those who care to do some math, they will realize it has not even been 75 hours since the game came out. So with some deduction, anyone with half a brain will realize I’m counting the multiplayer I played during the beta into game play time.

Relic has always created very unique (but also good) RTS that always mix up the old set in stone formula and Dawn of War 2 is no exception. This game, while not changing from the Company of Heroes style multiplayer too much, has an extremely innovative single player campaign system which, after playing I can only conclude, should be the way all campaigns of future RTS strive to become.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

13 02 2009

From the creators of Manhunt comes the sequel to the what I feel somewhat under acknowledged game, F.E.A.R. Here is more of the same but with a better engine which may be good or bad depending on what you felt about the first. Read the rest of this entry »

Burnout Paradise

10 02 2009

Burnout Paradise, the latest of the popular Burnout series, has actually been released onto the PC. Fortunately, the Burnout team did not half ass this PC port unlike many others out there. The game runs smoothly and looks great even my fairly dated computer. Read the rest of this entry »

Dead Space

4 02 2009

When looking at games, I’m often too reserved when it comes to sealing the deal on a game without a number attached to the end. The real reason for this is probably due to the large amount of shovelware being put out on store shelves in mix with the good games and retailers only hope to sell all of them. Sadly, it is also this sort of mentality that created the franchise games like Guitar Hero, Need for Speed, Madden, and other high profile series. While one cannot expect all of the games with a number attached to the back to be extremely fun or engaging (looking at you Silent Hill), the number at least guarantees a certain level of quality that is difficult to find in the “random games” section. Mirror’s Edge by EA DICE

27 01 2009

Mirror’s Edge is one of the two major original IPs that came out of EA in 2008. For those less informed, “IP” stands for intellectual property which translated to “Original plus the ten sequels” as far as gaming goes. On the Mirror’s Edge review, I mentioned there is a new EA which is basically what I’m talking about here. When was the last time EA actually created a high value new IP? They’ve got Madden, Need for Speed, Sims and they buy older IPs like Command ‘n Conquer but the last time they created a new IP, I was still eating Oreos and playing my Gameboy Gray Brick. (I’m now eating Oreos and playing my DS. Gaming… Gaming never changes.)

EA’s new CEO from 2007, John Riccitiello, originally announced his views of the company and his plans to change the company to the better from Big Bad EA to Gaming World Savior EA. Considering games of Mirror’s Edge or Dead Space level require immense R&D time which in turn means a fuck ton of money, I can now say that Riccitiello has made good on his promises… *Insert politicians joke here* Read the rest of this entry »

Sins of a Solar Empire by Stardock

26 01 2009

As the PC gaming industry slowly turns more and more towards seemingly useless anti-pirate software that often even hurt the end user, one company stands against the tide. Stardock, with the misfortune to sound similar to the software that swept (read: fucked up) computers of gamers around the world including mine, had a history of making great games that have absolutely no Digital Rights Management software.

I will admit I have tried Sins of a Solar Empire when the game came out almost a year ago but could not wrap my head around the concept of a 4XRTS within the three hours allotted time I usually put on new games. Yes, you read that right, this is a 4X (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) real time strategy game. Read the rest of this entry »
