Before anyone comments on anything, I can safely say that I unabashedly copied the IGN format.
But I did change some tiny things and until they file suit, I’m keeping this.
- Cover Art – speaks for itself… I hope no explanation is necessary
- Critical Score – Arbitrary score #1
Rating format: 7.5 is average (I think it’s called the 7-9 format?)
This score is dedicated to as non-subjective as possible game design decisions. Graphics, innovation, mechanics, uniformity, sound, voice acting, polish and all that other nice stuff regarding the science of game creation. If a game was created by someone who studied the great mechanics of games back to the Commodore 64 era and incorporated every mechanic that made every one of those games of that certain genre fun, then the critical score of the game would be a 10 even if I personally hated the game. - Time Commitment - VIDEO GAMES ARE A WASTE OF TIME
Rating format: 5 is ideal. Any less is short and any more is long.
This number gives you a decent guesstimate of how much time would be required to play this game to completion. Obviously multiplayer games and MMOs are never ending but the length of multiplayer matches or grinding speed of MMOs will be put into consideration for this number. In the end, it’s arbitrary as well.
Extra edit: After a few reviews, I realized that this score also reflected on how much time you need to devote into a single game and save point frequency. Games like Sins where a good 4-6 hour chunk is required will recieve an obscenely high (which means bad) score. Other games like Burnout or “casual games” like Peggle will get the perfect scores because they can be played at any instance and quit from at any instance without losing any progress. - Subjective Score - My opinions. Where I can be me, me, me
Rating format: HURR MY OPEENEEONS
Hey look! Checkmarks! Another arbitrary score which is the most accurate of the arbitrary scores because I can just say it is indeed right. - Play Time – First non-arbitrary score, but probably not extremely accurate
Self explanatory. Basically a guess of how much I played which is split between single and multiplayer. If a game is missing either component, then the time will be zero. - BRA Score – Buy, Rent, Avoid, Victoria Secret
An extremely basic guide for whether to buy the game or not.
All just my opinion and 32A girls are the best. *wink wink* - Bullshit Level – Hype meter
This is really the only score that needs explanation unless your brain is permanently melded into the proverbial shit-storm of the internet.
Low – Barely heard of and will probably be overshadowed by other games regardless of quality
Med – Well known series, this is where all the higher and higher numbers come into play. Nothing wrong with them, I just feel more compelled to not play a game series more milked than old Farmer Ben’s cow.
High – Most triple A titles will come in this category. Gaming enthusiasts who have not the money to buy all consoles will probably bitch about these titles left and right. Even on multiplatform games, they will bitch about every tiny little difference in game play and graphics.
Bullshit – Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Killzone 2, Final Fantasy 13, Super Smash Brothers – You know a game is bullshit level hype when your local 7/11 starts selling Gears of War 2 flavored Icees
